St. Peter

Love Learn Live

St. Peter was loved by Jesus

St. Peter learned from Jesus through what he said and did

So St. Peter could be the best that he could be, living his life, flourishing in the eyes of God.

Fascinating Facts

  • Peter came from the village of Bethsaida in Galilee and his father was a fisherman.
  • Peter worked the fishing nets with his father and his brother Andrew at the lakeside town of Capernaum. Andrew also joined the group of Jesus’ disciples on the same day.
  • Peter and Andrew were among the first to be chosen by Jesus to be his close followers.
  • Peter is traditionally considered to be the head of Jesus’ 12 Apostles.
  • Peter was the first of the Apostles to see Jesus after his resurrection from the dead.
  • Peter’s original name was Simon, Peter being a name given to him by Jesus.
  • The name Peter means ‘rock’ and from the moment Jesus met Peter he knew that Peter would be the rock of the Church.
  • We are told of various missionary trips which Peter undertook in order to preach about Jesus.

The Keys of St. Peter

In the Gospel of Matthew (16:19) Jesus says to Peter, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on Earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on Earth shall be loosed in heaven."

The keys of St. Peter can be found everywhere in our school.  We wear them proudly on our jumpers and cardigans.

Celebrating the Feast of St. Peter - 29th June

Every year we celebrate St. Peter's feast day.  We join together in church singing our favourite hymns and reflecting on Peter's friendship with Jesus and all the amazing things he did to spread the good news of how we should care, share and tell the truth.  We also invite all our family and friends to a picnic on the field.
